Three in five adults (6 million) rely on farming as a source of income. The monthly income for farmer households translates to about $4,54 per day. This reflects low income due to a lack of commercialisation and diversification.
Farming is the financial backbone for over half (55%) of the Burkinabe adults. Moreover, three in five adults derive their livelihoods from farming. This translates to 75% of Burkinabe households. The income source diversification outside of farming is limited with only 5% of the adult Burkinabe relying on farming as a secondary income source. About 3,000 adults rely on farm wages as a main income source.
