FinScope Burkina Faso Clean Energy 2017 Dashboard (English)

Using a median income and expenditure due to a high number of outliers in data, electricity and gas expenditure take up at least a third of the urban adults monthly income while this is up to 60% of rural adult’s monthly income. This is comparatively higher for rural households as they spend only 29% of their income on food related expenditure, while urban adults consume about 37% of their income on food expenditure. Addressing energy poverty by scaling up the availability of affordable and more efficient energy consumption is critical in improving social equity and Burkina’s development targets.
